Itinerary

Day 1: Departure day from Civitavecchia (Rome)

Welcome aboard the glorious Royal Clipper for a memorable trip of a lifetime. Board your ship between 4:00pm – 6:00pm, and after you check-in onboard, begin to explore your incredible new “home away from home”.

Following dinner, your Captain and crew invite you to join them on deck under the stars, for your first “sail-away”. As you begin to tingle from head to toe, raise your glass in celebration of an amazing journey ahead with your new Royal Clipper family and friends.

Day 2: Ponza & Palmarola, Italy

The Pontine Islands are a pretty archipelago off the Italian coast south of Rome.

The pastel houses of Ponza Town rise in neat terraced rows from the busy harbor where sleekly groomed yachts and ramshackle fishing boats moor side by side. Happily, there are few tourists here, so it is a delight to wander through the unspoiled town.

Palmarola is a snorkeling heaven that is part of a group called The Pontine Islands, located off the coast between Rome and Naples. A craggy landscape with pink coral beaches and emerald coves beckons, so don’t forget your swimsuit and flippers. Totally unique, isolated, and stunning.

Day 3: Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento, whose city walls rise straight out of the sea, is located on the lovely Amalfi Coast, and overlooks the Bay of Naples. A small resort with a big reputation, Sorrento is a town of lemons, high-pedigree hotels and plunging cliffs that cut through the heart of the historical core.

Optional excursions might include taking a trip back in history to Pompeii, where the ashen remains of ancient Romans lie frozen in time. Or discover Capri on your own, with helpful tips from a local guide to ensure you make the most of your visit. Choose from a variety of Star Clippers offered shore excursions or explore on your own; however, make the most of this incredible stop on your itinerary.

With a late evening departure, perhaps dinner in Sorrento is part of your plan. A shot of ice-cold limoncello might be the best way to top off this day.

Day 4: Amalfi - Sicily

Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997, the Amalfi Coast offers scenery of incomparable beauty, characterized by a succession of uncontaminated beaches, bays, caves, inlets, and villages perched on cliffs. Since ancient times, artists and travelers have fallen under the spell of its tiny villages lost amidst the orange, lemon and olive groves, the vines, and bougainvillea.

Here you might enjoy visiting the village of Positano and browse its over 200 boutiques which sell the casual, locally made cotton that the town is famous for.

Beauty abounds, so enjoy your day! Sailing at sunset is once again a gorgeous site.

Day 5: Taormina, Sicily

Taormina the most beautiful town in Sicily, an old hilltop town full of history and culture and by the sea. Located on Mount Tauro, between the jagged mountains and the calm Ionian Sea, the town’s origins date back to 398 AD. Taormina is famous for its beauty, it’s incredible heritage in history, archaeology, and architecture, as well as for its reputation in welcoming travellers.

Its most important monument is the theater, built in the 3rd century BC by the Greeks and restructured by the Romans. The site is spectacular and is situated between the looming Mount Etna and the sparkling blue sea. In addition to the ancient theater, which is still in use today, it has many old churches, lively bars, fine restaurants, and antique shops.

ENJOY some of THE BEST cannoli in the world as you explore Taormina!

Day 6: Lipari, Italy

The volcanic islands known collectively as the Aeolian Islands emerge from the deep blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea between Sicily and Southern Italy. The Royal Clipper anchors off Lipari, the main island of the archipelago, and guests will take a tender boat ashore to Marina Corta.

Here in the bustling heart of the village, enjoy exploring the lively cafes, restaurants, and attractive shops on your own, or perhaps you might enjoy a tour of the island offered by Star Clippers.

In the evening, Royal Clipper will be around Stromboli, a small island in Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily, containing Mount Stromboli, one of three active volcanos in Italy. The volcano has erupted many times and is constantly active with minor eruptions, often visible from many points on the island and from the surrounding sea, giving rise to the island’s nickname – Lighthouse of the Mediterranean.

Rising from the sea, Stromboli is a bold and beautiful site.

Day 7: Gaeta, Italy

Set between Rome and Naples amid the so-called Ulysses Riviera, gorgeous Gaeta overlooks the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. Present day Gaeta is a fishing and oil seaport, and a renowned tourist resort.

Nearby sites include the first-century BC mausoleum of general Lucius Munatius Plancus. Its old town is mostly medieval, showcased by narrow alleys, the massive 13th-century castle, and the 12th-century Cathedral of Assunta e Sant’Erasmo. For relaxing, lovely, and central Serapo Beach is a favored locale.

Day 8: Arrive back to Civitavecchia (Rome)

You’ll disembark in the morning.
